Location

 

The location for the Amazons Australia is Mission Beach, Cassowary Coast, Queensland.

Mission Beach is approximately 2 hour’s drive, south of Cairns International Airport. 

​

The Cassowary Coast is one of Australia’s favourite tourist destinations, with people travelling from all over the world to enjoy the beautiful beaches, rainforests, reefs and wonderful tropical weather … and what a great destination to host the first ever ARWS all-women’s adventure race.

​

Headquarters for The Amazons Australia is Mission Beach. The exact location for headquarters (HQ) is the Mission Beach Progress Hall, North Mission Beach.

​

Event registration, mandatory equipment checks, map handouts, pre race briefings and the start/finish will all occur at headquarters (HQ) each day. It is compulsory that all team members attend the registration and briefing on each day of the event.

​

At the daily briefing you will receive the course notes, maps and important safety information for the day.  You will then start planning your route and strategy before the start. You will be required to drop off gear and equipment as specified by officials prior to the start. 

​

Car parking, toilets and water will be also available at HQ.

Accommodation

​

We recommend that competitors stay in the town of Mission Beach area for the duration of the event. There are plenty of accommodation options to suit your own individual budgets ranging from luxury resorts through to beachside family friendly holiday parks. There are plenty of places to eat out in the town all within walking distance of Mission Beach and the event HQ.

​

At the time of the event, it will be school holidays in Queensland, which is a prime time for visitation, but all the more reason to book and stay for a little longer after the event as there is so much to see and do in this beautiful tropical location.

Transport  & Transfers

We recommend that participants flying to the event, fly into Cairns as there are shuttles that service the Mission Beach area. Qantas, Jetstar and Virgin provide daily flights directly into Cairns Domestic International Airports. Air New Zealand and Singapore Airlines service the International Airport.

                          Townsville Domestic Airport - 3 hours South of Mission Beach

 

Shuttles

The local shuttle service to Mission Beach is Mission Link. It takes approximately 3 hours. If booking this service, please ensure that you advise the transport company that you are travelling with a bike.  Below is the link to their website.

We are hoping to provide an event shuttle* from Cairns Airport. This would transport you and your gear directly from the domestic / international airport to Mission Beach - HQ. At this stage, to  take advantage of this service, you will need to plan to arrive before 1pm on Saturday 5 July 2025. It is proposed that the event shuttle will depart the Airport at approximately 2pm

Following the event, the shuttle will depart Mission Beach - HQ at approximately 8am on Thursday 10 July 2025 and should have you at the airport by approximately 11am (*Subject to change depending on service provider and there being sufficient bookings).
